To the Drivers,
Once again, the derby season is fast approaching. The DDRA continues to grow
in popularity every year, and with this comes added responsibility concerning safety and
rules.
As a dnver first and foremost. I understand the desire to build a competitive car,
and also the money it takes to do this: I also understand that there are "gray areas" not
necessarily covered by the rules.
That said, the DDRA will be tightening up inspections in the coming derby
season. We have been very fortunate and have not had any major issues concerning rules
being broken in the past. However, we want to address this issue before it becomes a
problem. If you are curious about whether you can or cannot do something specific to
your car, please ask us. We will give you an honest answer andlor a possible alternative,
if needed.
As stated earlier, all rules have a "gray area". Please understand that you must be
prepared to cut your car if we feel the rules have been broken in any way. I know that a
lot of you are seasoned drivers. Please use common sense when building your cars. We
do not want to make anyone cut their car, but we are obligated to keep an even playing
field. The rules we used in 2009 have not been changed much, just clarified for the newer
drivers.
Thank you for your time and good luck in the upcoming derby season!
Sincerely,
Greg Wertz,
President
